Cards with layers and texture really draw me in. For my cards I'm sharing today, I used the new Charming Day bundle from Stampin' Up!®. I love the floral image. It is an outline stamp. You can color it with markers (Stampin' Write or blends), watercolor pencils, or add color with brushes/sponges and classic ink pads.
Supplies for Card 1:
- Basic Beige cardstock 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" scored at 4 1/4"
- Secret Sea Two Tone cardstock 4 3/4" x 3 1/2"
- Basic White cardstock 5" x 3 3/4"
- Stampin' Blends Markers: Cloud Cover, Mossy Meadow, Pretty Peacock and Secret Sea
- Forever Plaid 3D embossing folder
- Secret Sea Classic ink and Early Espresso Classic ink pads
- Charming Day bundle (stamps and coordinating dies)
- Everyday Arches dies (smallest die with a die cutting trick to make it longer)
Cut all your cardstock pieces. Stamp and color the floral images and then die cut. Use the Forever Plaid 3D embossing folder on the Secret Sea two tone cardstock. To create the rough, rustic texture, use a sanding block or nail file and go over the raised parts of the embossed layer. Two tone cardstock is printed so the core is still white. Sanding allows the white core to show. Isn't that cool?! Adhere your textured layer to the card base. Make sure you use a strong adhesive when adhering textured/embossed pieces. I used multipurpose liquid glue. Stamp your greeting in Early Espresso classic ink and adhere to the embossed layer. My floral images are popped up with dimensionals. Stamp or embellish your inside layer and adhere.
Supplies for Card 2:
- Basic Beige cardstock 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" scored at 4 1/4"
- Secret Sea Two Tone cardstock 4 3/4" x 3 1/2"
- Basic White cardstock 5" x 3 3/4"
- Stampin' Blends Markers: Cloud Cover, Mossy Meadow, Pretty Peacock, Timid Tiger, Cajun Craze and Secret Sea
- Mini Corrugated 3D embossing folder
- Secret Sea Classic ink and Early Espresso Classic ink pads
- Charming Day bundle (stamps and coordinating dies)
- Simply Said stamp set
- Stylish Shapes dies (largest circle)
- Use any embossing folder you have on hand
- Pick out desired color of two tone cardstock
- Put the two tone cardstock in the embossing folder and run it through your cut & emboss machine
- Use a fine or medium sanding block or nail file over the raised areas
Here's an up close look at the texture of the Forever Plaid 3D embossed layer. Check out the up close look at the Mini Corrugated 3D embossed layer. Each embossed layer has a different feel. You can pair this with most occasions and images. The sanded Mini Corrugated layer reminds me of an old washboard. I think it gives this card a vintage feel. It would also pair well with mountains, outdoorsy themes or many masculine themed images.
Coloring technique:
- For the flowers and leaves, I used a stippling technique- coloring with dots.
- Stampin' Blends Markers by Stampin' Up!® are an alcohol marker. When you layer the dots they blend together as you layer them.
- I used Cloud Cover and light Secret Sea on the blue flowers.
- I used Timid Tiger and dark Cajun Craze on the orange flowers
- For the leaves, I used Pretty Peacock and Mossy Meadow.
